Al debuted his career at WTIC/WTIC-FM/WTIC-TV in June 1968 where he served as a staff announcer. He remained a talk show host and newscaster even after Washington Post bought the station in the year 1973. Al was the original host when a one-hour daily talk show, New England Journal started in 1974. He was promoted from a news co-anchor to News Anchor, and later News Director, at WPEC-TV12 (ABC) based in West Palm Beach, Florida.
He was serving as a prime anchor at WTNH-TV8 (ABC) in New Haven, CT from April 1980 to January 1994, prior to returning to Channel 3.
