Chavez made her career debut in Reno, Nevada as an anchor at KOLO 8 News Now. She covered political news, occurring crimes as well as weather during her time there. Chavez was privileged to launch her very own news series“ Beyond the Call”, which highlighted community members who try their level best to serve others. She received an Emmy Award for reporting special coverage of the University of the camp Fire in Paradise, California, with her friends and colleagues.

In June 2020 is when Chavez joined FOX 12 team as a reporter, Belen, New Mexico is her native home, and attended the University of New Mexico where she received an undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Arts in both journalism and mass communication.

Following her graduation in 2014 from the University of New Mexico she taught special education for students in underserved communities in the bay area in San Jose through Teach for America Corps Member. Furthermore, while she was working Teach for America Corps Member, she also attended the Loyola Marymount University where she received a master of Arts degree.

She later joined Newhouse at Syracuse University where she earned a Master of Science Degree in Broadcast & Digital Journalism. When not on the screen, Chavez enjoys snowboarding, running, hiking, and exploring the outdoors. In addition, she likes reading books and spending time with friends, family, and a cat named Cat.
