At the end of 2010, Knighton left the network. He was one of the original co-hosts of The List, a national news magazine produced by the EW Scripps Company. As of now, Knighton is a correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning. Knighton launched “On The Trail,” a series of stories on the US national parks that aired on CBS Sunday Morning in 2016.

He released a book about his year visiting the parks entitled Leave Only Footprints: My Acadia-to-Zion Journey Through Every National Park on April 7, 2020.
