From September 1985 to November 1992, he served at The Cincinnati Enquirer as a Columnist and Writer. While there, Orlando covered the Cincinnati Bengals, the Ohio State University, football and basketball, and high school sports. After college, he debuted his career at The Charlotte Observer as a staff writer in August 1984, where he reported on high school sports.
Later, Orlando joined Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in November 1992 where he served as a writer and columnist. While there, he covered the Green Bay Packers and Marquette basketball and wrote general sports columns.
