Born on October 28, 1957, Levine is of Jewish Descent, and growing up she hardly talked about LGBTQ issues. She is a Harvard Graduate who completed her residency in pediatrics and fellowship in adolescent medicine at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, New York.

Martha on the other hand is an associate professor of pediatrics, psychiatry, and humanities at Penn State Milton S Hershey Medical Center in Pennsylvania and director of the Intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization eating disorder programs.

She attended the Tulane University School of Medicine in 1984. Her ex-husband  Rachel on the other hand grew up attending Hebrew School. Later on, she attended Belmont Hill School in Belmont, Massachusetts, and graduated with a Diploma from the institution.
