In 5th grade, Gordon debuted his journalism career by doing delivery of newspapers and he also worked at a local radio station in Michigan as a newscaster and a DJ while he was still in High School. Furthermore, Gordon was the only television reporter from Pittsburgh who traveled to Vancouver, Canada to cover the Winter Olympic Games in 2010. Prior to joining WPXI in 2004, he was working for WXYZ in Detroit as a fill-in anchor and reporter.
