“My Date With Betty Crocker” became a sensation here, where the speech was written and performance advice was given, and Jason gained an early knack for public speaking.
A few years later, Judy Krocker’s journalism class at Manatee High School applied the same technique for public speaking. After a year of newscasts for the inaugural “Cane News,” Jason knew exactly what he wanted to do: be an anchor on “SportsCenter.”
When he moved from being a sports reporter at WILX in Lansing to becoming an anchor on the “TODAY Show,” his goal became a reality. Colthorp was also born and reared in Lansing, though he spent his summers and school years in Florida.
He obtained a journalism degree from Michigan State and is looking forward to living in “the D.” Aside from delivering news, he also hosts charity events, and sometimes during Saturday nights, he works as a wedding DJ.
