Jeff Rimer Career
He serves as the TV play-by-play announcer for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League. He began his broadcasting profession in Calgary with CFAC Radio. During his time at CFAC, Jeff labored as the play-by-play man for the Calgary Centennials of the Western Hockey League. He would thereupon spend more than four years serving at CBC TV in Edmonton. He became the network’s gymnastics commentator during the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. He also worked for a period of eight years as the sports director and Montreal Canadiens pre-and post-game show host at CFCF Radio.
He named Washington Capitals games on Home Team Sports (HTS) from 1983–1993, and WDCA, first as ice level reporter and later the play-by-play announcer. Jeff also served as the sports director at WBAL-Radio, where he hosted the Baltimore Orioles pre-and post-game shows, co-hosted syndicated college basketball shows together with both Billy Packer and Gary Williams, and became also a sideline reporter for Maryland Terrapins football. He was also granted a regional Emmy Award due to his play-by-play term and won a UPI National Broadcasting Award due to his work at WBAL.
Rimer was the TV voice of the accumulation Florida Panthers in 1993. Jeff remained with the team until the determination of the 1999–2000 NHL season when he left to join the Columbus Blue Jackets. While at the Panthers, he also co-hosted the internationally syndicated “Inside the NHL” radio program alongside John Davidson.
