He is the senior correspondent and editor for ProPublica in New York City and is the 2011 winner of the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting. In 2016 and 2017, he was a New American Fellow. Before joining ProPublica in July 2009, Jesse labored for The New York Times as a DealBook columnist from November 2010 to December 2015.

Prior to that, he served for Conde Nast Portfolio as a wall street editor from October 2006 to April 2009. While there, he was appointed for the 2011 Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting. Moreover, in 2015, he was nominated again for the Goldsmith for a series of stories regarding the Red Cross which was written with NPR’s Laura Sullivan and Justin Elliott of ProPublica.

From 2000 to 2006, Jesse worked for The Wall Street Journal as a reporter in New York. Jesse’s first column was “Ahead of the Tape” and in 2004, he started writing a new financial column called, Long and Short.  Additionally, he joined the Conde Nast Portfolio as the magazine’s Wall Street editor. In November 2007, Jesse covered a story named Wall Street Requiem where he predicted the collapse of Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers.

He started his journalism career laboring with The South Pacific Mail in Santiago, Chile. Jesse thereafter relocated to Dow Jones Newswires and then TheStreet.com.There, he protected biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
