John Anderson kicked off his broadcasting career at KOMU-TV in Columbia, Mo. He went to serve ESPN as the ESPNEWS anchor in June 1999, from KPHO-TV in Phoenix, Ariz. From 1996 to 1999, he was a weekend sports anchor while in KPHO-TV. Before KPHO, he was a weekend sports anchor and a sports reporter from 1990 to 1996 at KOTV in Tulsa, Okla.

Anderson made his first appearance as co-host of ESPN’s presentation of the 2013 ING New York City Marathon on November 3, 2013. He also won the Associated Press Television Award in Arizona for their best performance in broadcast journalism in 1997.
