John Anderson kicked off his broadcasting career at KOMU-TV in Columbia, Mo. He went to serve ESPN as the ESPNEWS anchor in June 1999, from KPHO-TV in Phoenix, Ariz. From 1996 to 1999, he was a weekend sports anchor while in KPHO-TV. Before KPHO, he was a weekend sports anchor and a sports reporter from 1990 to 1996 at KOTV in Tulsa, Okla.
He also served at Tulsa’s KTUL-TV as a reporter and a sports photographer from 1988 to 1990. Anderson made his first appearance as co-host of ESPN’s presentation of the 2013 ING New York City Marathon on November 3, 2013. John received the Outstanding Sports Feature Reporting Award, given by the Oklahoma Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists in 1994 and 1995. He also won the Associated Press Television Award in Arizona for their best performance in broadcast journalism in 1997.
John and his wife began the Anderson Family Charitable Foundation in late 2009. The organization’s goal was to help supply underprivileged youth with school supplies, food, and backpacks. John competed in the NYC Marathon as Captain of Team Tillman in November 2010, and they wanted to raise money for the Pat Tillman Foundation.
