Moreover, he participated in the first-ever junior national tournament where he earned gold at the age of 9 years. In 1976, Leo was selected to compete at the Pan American Championships with Team USA where he earned gold in the open Division. At the age of 19 years, he also won a silver in the 95-kg weight class. Leo also won the World Military Games in 1981, 1982, 1984, and 1987. Also, he coaches judo in Atlanta.

After his retirement from being a U.S. Army Captain and a Judo athlete, Leo ventured into the broadcasting career. He first began working as a judo analyst for NBC during the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
