Furthermore, Luke was also a senior writer at Patuxent Publishing and a managing editor at B, The Sun’s free daily newspaper. From Jan 2009 – Jan 2010 he co-founded the Investigative Voice.

He began his career at The Howard County Times in Columbia, Md working as a reporter from Jun 2002 – May 2006 soon after completing college.
From May 2006 – Mar 2009 he worked at The Baltimore Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland as a reporter. While at The Baltimore Examiner, he covered hundreds of speed cameras that were giving drivers inaccurate tickets. A state constitutional amendment redirecting billions in casino revenue back to the state’s public schools was passed due to Broadwater’s story.
Following the death of Freddie Gray in police custody, he became part of a team named Pulitzer finalists in 2016 for coverage of the unrest. In 2015, he reported on the conditions teachers face in Baltimore schools and was awarded the Education Writers Association Award for investigative reporting.
His investigative report on a self-dealing scandal at the state’s largest hospital system led to the passage of sweeping reform legislation and the resignation of Baltimore’s mayor and top hospital officials. He received a George Polk Award for political reporting and the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for local reporting due to this series.
