Mark was also serving as a Web Producer at Illini Media the same year. He later served for 6 months at WAND-TV based in Decatur, Illinois as an anchor. While there, Rivera reported breaking news and anchored news for two hours every day. Also, he wrote, edited, and reported a weekly feature piece that aimed at the community around him. While serving at WAND, he received a regional Associated Press Award for his reporting.
