In his only at-bat, on September 8, 2010, flew out against Cincinnati Reds pitcher Carlos Fisher and made his major league debut. On March 29, for minor league RHP Daniel Turpen, Michael was sold to the Boston Red Sox. On June 13, 2011, Michael was sold for cash or a player to be named later to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
