Buffo joined 27 News as a digital journalist in July 2016 and is now a co-anchor on Wake Up Wisconsin. In November 2017, he was named Weekend Co-Anchor of Wake Up Wisconsin before transitioning to weekdays. He is looking forward to being a member of the Madison and Southern Wisconsin communities.
Nick relocated to Madison from Chicago, Illinois, where he attended DePaul University and majored in Broadcast Journalism. He worked as a reporter and anchor for DePaul’s weekly newscast, Good Day DePaul. During his tenure on the student-run broadcast, Nick earned a NATAS Student Achievement Award from the Chicago/Midwest chapter for his in-depth analysis of Chicago’s homelessness.
Nick previously reported at NBC5 Chicago with veteran journalist Carol Marin. During his tenure at NBC5, he assisted Marin in covering a number of news stories, including the officer-involved killing of Laquan McDonald, which resulted in a federal probe into the Chicago Police Department and the retirement of the police chief.
He also interned at CBS’s 93 XRT radio station, where he worked in the promotions section. At the end of his time at DePaul, he was named Outstanding Journalist for Good Day DePaul by the faculty.
During his time at WKOW, Nick covered major stories such as the Fitchburg home explosion, the nationwide manhunt for Joseph Jakubowski, the Didion Milling explosion, and the downtown Sun Prairie explosion.
Nick was honored by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association in May 2018 for Best Use of News Video for his piece commemorating the six-month anniversary of the Didion Milling blast. Nick was a part of a Midwest Regional EMMY award-winning evening newscast in November 2018 for his reporting on the Didion Milling Plant explosion.
