Ryan started his Major League start for the Rockies on Jul 16, 2005, against the Cincinnati Reds and recorded his number one hit in that game, a single to right field off of Todd Coffey. He began the 2007 season at Triple-A with the Sky Sox, after being beaten out for a roster spot by veteran Steve Finley.

After the release of Finley by the Rockies, he came back to the team. Ryan made the team from spring training, in 2008, serving as the fourth outfielder.
