Following graduation, she enrolled at New Mexico State University, where she originally studied Biology. Shelby changed majors and is now studying Journalism and Mass Communications with a focus on radio.
Shelby is also minoring in government. She will graduate in December 2018. Shelby worked as a reporter, producer, and anchor for NMSU’s student-produced live newscast News22.
Shelby worked as an intern at KVIA during the summer of 2017. She was hired as an Associate Producer after a few months as an intern. She has since advanced to the role of Producer, responsible for the 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. newscasts.
Shelby believes that working behind the scenes provided her with the foundation she needed to become the best reporter she could be. Shelby is now the morning anchor/producer for Good Morning El Paso Weekend, as well as a reporter during the week.
Shelby says she enjoys spending time with her family, being outside, and traveling while she is not in school or working full-time. She says she wants to visit a different city next year. She hasn’t been outside of the country yet, so it’s on her bucket list.
