Morris was a member of BBC Northwest Tonight after starting out as a correspondent for the flagship program in Manchester, he climbed through the ranks to present shorter bulletins, normally on weekends, and the area bulletin after the BBC News at Ten.

He worked as a national news correspondent for the BBC for a brief time in his later years, based in London. Morris also co-hosted The Very Useful Show, a BBC Birmingham morning broadcast, in 1997.

Morris joined ITV Granada as the new male co-anchor for Granada Reports in 2003, alongside Lucy Meacock. After the departures of presenters Antony Wilson and So Rahman, this happened. He most recently served at the station, where he alternated lunchtime and late bulletins.

In September 2013, he marked ten years with Granada Reports. Morris guest-starred on the ITV Weekend News in 2007 after Granada Reports became the first area news show to win a BAFTA.
